How it plays

Hide. Fire. Plunder.

Classic hidden-fleet battles, then things get weird: icebergs, volcanoes, jungle canopies, flying ships, kraken attacks, clockwork pirates and meteor showers all change how each battle plays.

  1. Placing ships on the grid

    1 Hide your fleet

Drag your ships onto your grid, turn them, tuck them in a corner or bunch them in the middle. The enemy cannot see a thing.

  2. 2 Fire your volleys

Call a cell and let fly. A splash means water, a burst means timber. Follow the hits, read your sonar, and close in.

  3. The victory screen with Pepper the parrot

    3 Sink or plunder

Sink the whole enemy fleet to win stars, doubloons, experience and loot, then sail on to the next mission.

Questions

Ask the quartermaster

When can I play?

Scallywag Seas is in beta on TestFlight for iPhone and iPad. Ask to join the beta and we will send you an invite. The Android version is coming soon: join the launch list and we will tell you the day it lands.

How do I play a friend online?

In Challenge Mode choose Online, then Create Room and share the six-character room code, or the link the game makes. Your friend taps the link, or types the code into the Room code box and taps Join. Quick Match finds you another captain who picked the same rules, and if nobody is free after about half a minute, a computer captain steps in so you can still play.

Is it kid friendly?

Aye. It is cartoon cannon fire with no blood, no ads and no account. Colorblind markers, VoiceOver support, reduced motion and an adjustable animation speed are all built in.

Do I need to be online?

Only for online matches. The campaign, battles against the computer, Pass and Play and Nearby all work without an internet connection.

Any tips for a new captain?

Plenty. Read our guide to hunting hidden fleets: it covers ten search strategies, from blind luck to the probability heatmap the Hard captains use.

I found a bug. Who do I tell?

Beta testers can send a screenshot straight from TestFlight. Everyone else can email support@jdmdesign.com.
